St Anton is the best resort in Austria for expert and extreme skiing.
St Anton offers huge ski terrain for all ranges of skiing ability but it is the extreme and expert ski terrain that singles out St Anton as one of the top ski areas.
The label on the turnstile for the Valluga 2 lift tells the story – no skis allowed unless the owners are accompanied by a certified local guide. This rule is strictly enforced with the only other option of accesses the ridge at Valluga 2, on foot, or rather hands and knees. The steep slope that is used to circumvent these rules is steep and long. At the top, the Valluga 2 has a narrow and treacherous ridge that runs from the Valluga 2 lift station to the launch point of possibly the best off-piste terrain to be found anywhere in the Arlberg or beyond. If the short trek across a narrow bridge and the traverse are a definite no-fall area, the steep moguls or deep powder beyond the rocks and also not the ideal place to get into difficulty. For those who attempt this ski route the initial drops are replaced by a long and great powder decent down into Zurs. |
